Rebecca Stephens Falcasantos
Rebecca Stephens Falcasantos (Ph.D., Brown University) was a Fellow of Byzantine Studies at the Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collection in Washington, D.C. in the summer of 2017. Her research focuses on the intersection of religious practices, rhetoric, and contestations over cultural dominance in the late Roman and early Byzantine Empires. She has recently published an article on constructions of gender in late antique pilgrimage. She is completing a manuscript on changes in public ritual life in late antique Constantinople (330-450 C.E.). Her next project will examine accounts of violence, mutilation, and destruction as tools for targeting competing religious groups.
