Dr. David J. Mozina, Independent Scholar of Chinese Studies, will deliver the Eighth Annual Sheng Yen Lecture on Friday, April 28, at 4:30 PM in Dodd Hall 118. His lecture is entitled “Efficacious Writing: The Workings  of Talismans in Contemporary Daoist Practice." Further information is available here.

Melani McAlister, Professor of American Studies and International Affairs at George Washington University, will deliver the 2023 Wellborn Lecture in the Religion Department on Friday, April 14, at 5:00 PM in Dodd Hall Auditorium. Her lecture is titled, "Fela Kuti in America: Thinking Music and Politics through Religious Studies." More details on her lecture are available here.

Along with the Department of Modern Languages & Linguistics and the Winthrop-King Institute, the Department of Religion is proud to present the 2023 Tessa J. Bartholomeusz lecture, to be presented by Prof. Dennis Washburn of Dartmouth College on Friday, April 21 at 5pm in Room 249 of the Fine Arts Building. His lecture is entitled "'Death is the Mother of Beauty': Sublime Aesthetics in The Tale of Genji"; further information can be found here.

Prof. Michael Penn, the Teresa Hihn Moore Professor of Religious Studies at Stanford University, will deliver the 2023 John F. Priest Lecture on Thursday, March 30, at 5pm in William Johnston Building, Room 2005. Further information is available here.

Musa W. Dube, William Ragsdale Cannon Distinguished Professor of New Testament literature at the Candler School Theology, will speak on "Mother Earth, Pandemics, Gender & Religion: Pursuing Social Welfare & Human Rights in Southern Africa" on Thursday, March 2, at the Globe Auditorium. A reception will begin at 5:30 pm followed by the presentation at 6 pm.
