The FSU Department of Religion will host its annual end-of-year picnic at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 4th, at the FSU Reservation's Renegade Shelter. Students, staff, faculty, and their families are all welcome. Students need FSU ID for admission; non-students welcome as department’s guests. Please see the attached flyer for more details. Calling all Undergrads!
Students Organized for Religious and Cultural Exploration (SORCE)—a.k.a. the "Religion Club"—announces the Seventh Undergraduate Student Religion Symposium, Saturday, April 13, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., location to be determined. Coffee, lunch, and refreshments will be provided. This year’s theme is “Embodying Religion.” Our deadline for proposal submissions is Friday, February 22 at 11:59 p.m.
Dr. Adheesh Sathaye, Associate Professor of Sanskrit Literature and South Asian Folklore, University of British Columbia will deliver this year's Tessa J. Bartholomeusz Lecture, "Language of the Zombies: Shivadasa’s Vetala Tales and the Sanskrit Public Culture of Medieval India" on Thursday, March 7th at 5:00 p.m. in the Dodd Hall Auditorium. Dr. Eric Greene, Assistant Professor of Religious Studies at Yale University, will deliver the Sixth Annual Sheng Yen Lecture on December 14, 2018, at 5:30 PM in Dodd Hall Auditorium. His lecture is “Repentance in the Formation of Chinese Buddhism," and a full abstract is available here.
The department honors Amanda Porterfield on the occasion of her retirement from FSU on November 9th from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Beth Moor Lounge, Longmire Building, Florida State University.
Keynote speakers include Ron Numbers (University of Wisconsin, Madison) and Marie Griffith (Washington University in St. Louis). Reception to follow.
